Celebrating Over 80 Years Of Service!

The American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) represents over 2,700 Board-certified otolaryngologists and health care providers. Otolaryngology, frequently referred to as Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), uniquely combines medical and surgical expertise to care for patients with a variety of conditions affecting the ears, nose, and throat, as well as commonly related conditions. AAOA members devote part of their practice to the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease. The AAOA actively supports its membership through education, research, and advocacy in the care of allergic patients.

ReCAP — Review of Core Allergy Principles

The AAOA Education Committee is pleased to announce that, in addition to updating the format and educational venue for the Annual meeting, there will be a revision of the Basic Principles of Allergy workshop.

The Basic Principles of Allergy program will emerge as ReCAP, which stands for Review of Core Allergy Principles.

This course is intended to provide a condensed but fully updated presentation of the core principles taught in the Basic course.  This is an excellent opportunity for the allergy fellow to hear what may have changed in the Basic curriculum.  It is an important introduction to basic principles for a physician or allied health member who has not yet been able to attend the Basic course.  ReCAP is also a great way for residents to sample allergy principles as they determine what level of allergy they intend to perform in their practice.

The program will extend throughout Saturday, but will have breaks to allow attendees to participate in some of the exciting practice management and business of medicine additions to the Annual Meeting that are happening concurrently.  The sessions will be divided into topics (see below); while the entire program is recommended, a meeting attendee can certainly ‘pick and choose’ specific areas of interest to attend.

ReCAP will be taught in rapid-fire format, with emphasis on key principles and concepts.  We do leave a lot of specifics for those attending the Basic course; our goal is to raise your interest and update you on the changes and ideas that have emerged to guide and improve your allergy practice.

Building on the core of the Basic Course in Allergy and Immunology, ReCAP will cover:

Immunology

Immunology Principles

Why It Works (We think)

Treatment

Sublingual Immunotherapy

Antigen Selection

Vial Prep

SLIT Delivery

Foods

Nuts

Brownies

Asthma

Adding Asthma Management to Your Allergy Management Practice

Anaphylaxis

Prevention

Panel Discussion:  Multi versus Pauci Therapy (Where Is the Data?)

Under the direction of Jack Fornadley, MD, invited faculty include Bruce Gordon, MD, Ayesha Khalid, MD, Michael Platt, MD, Mona Patadia, MD  (there will be more, he is still inviting).

More to come this month as the annual meeting approaches. Check out the blog for new updates.
